Whatever Objectivist site you head to, most of 'em are screaming "WE'RE FIGHTING THIS WAR ALL WRONG- WE'RE GONNA LOSE IN THE LONG RUN, BECAUSE WE'RE NOT FIGHTING THEM AT THEIR CORE BELIEFS! TO MAKE THINGS WORSE, BECAUSE OF THIS, THE OTHER COUNTRIES HATE US NOW" Whilst I DO agree, that we're not fighting this war to the best degree that we could, I'd also like to disagree that we can't win- and here's why:

According to said logic, that would ALSO suggest we lost World War II, and the Cold War. After all, FDR fought WWII, and how could HE, a closet Communist, fight Hitler on an ideological basis, when HE HIMSELF didn't believe in the essentials of freedom? Reagan never fully attacked the Soviet Union on the ideological basis, yet we won that, too.

As for the argument that the other countries hate us now, and the Iraqis just dont' seem to appreciate what we're doing, here's a little piece of news for you: after we wiped out Hitler, there was a German uprising against American troops. And isn't this interesting- I don't quite see Germany praising us up and down TODAY, either. They hated us then, they hate us today. Same with Russia, that's not gonna change. As one of the customers I frequently and fondly talk to about politics with, at my job, agreed: it's better to have a country hate us, yet be a pacifist nation who's afraid of us, then have a country hate us, and be a violent nation with weapons to blow us up with.

Any objections? ':B-)

With respect to the claim that the Americans won the ideological Cold War, I believe that comes from more of an Ameri-centric viewpoint. Idelogically communism has not disappeared it has only been side-lined by a more individualist, globalist, capiltalist and consumerist governing system. Not to say that communist states do not consume or attribute somewhat to the before said  isms.

The core principles of communism are still rife and may I say still say spreading. I am no communist just a 'devil's advocate' on this regard. The real (core) communist ideology may be being moulded by generational encorporations (ie MTV youth) and creating a splinter communist ideology but that is more a fashioned aspect formed through capitalist state influence.

Communism can never be fully defeated- no idiot ideology ever can be- it's part of being human. But we DID win the Cold War- defeated the Soviet Union. And we DID win WWII, despite having a closet Communist for a President.

In fact, we DID try forcing a democratic republic on Germany- we see how well THAT did. As the old saying goes "you can lead a horse to water, but ya can't make 'em drink". As long as they're a PEACEFUL nation that hates us, it's better THAT, than a VIOLENT nation with weapons that hates us. ':B-)

Courtney: "The core principles of communism are still rife and may I say still say spreading."

While we were watching the Berlin Wall being torn down, I said to a friend, "Where will the communists go now?" I soon found out. They went to the environmental movement.
