Rather than the rude cynicism regarding Mr. Robinson's achievement, how about posting a new, non-silly poll?

(Forgive them, Gordon, they know not what they do!)

Well, in preparation for the main event, I checked three books of paradoxes from the library.  The mind-body dichotomy is in one of them.  (The mind is spirit.  The body is matter.  Spirit cannot interact with matter.  Yet the mind interacts with the body.)

We have this parking garage at the U and my wife said, "I can never find the middle aisle."  And I said, "It doesn't exist.  It's like the middle tine on the optical illusion fork."

I remember reading that a Soviet translation of "the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak" was translatable into English as "the liquor is agreeable, but the meat is decrepit." Not that this has any relevance to Mr. Robinson's book.

I love it!  This isn't the Cherry St. Garage at U of A, is it?  I'm always asking my husband, "how do those cars get in there to the middle aisle?!  I can't figure it out!"

Anyway, congratulations to Mr. Robinson on his book & sorry for continuing the hijack!

From the Review:

Not only does Howard’s new source of energy eliminate the need for burning fossil fuels, but also, he can create a particle beam shield that will protect the United States and its allies from a Ballistic Missile attack. Unfortunately, this same device can be refined to create a beam that will silently kill hundreds of innocent people. Stephan will resort to anything to get his hands on Howard’s Killing Machine.

My Comment:

We already have such energy sources. Solar related sources, tidal forces, and geothermal heat sources to say nothing of heat produced by nuclear fission. We have had these sources for decades. The only think lacking is the will to deploy them and to make the appropriate investments. You can thank your government and the corporate "welfare queens" for that.

As to a particle beam defense against nukes, how do you keep nukes from being walked in, flown in, trucked in, shipped in? And what about chemical and biological weapons that can produce as many casualties as any nuke?
