Yes, and prohibitions in general.
With some irony; eliminate the current drug prohibition, and what happens to gun violence statistics in this nation?
The current drug prohibition is not slowing down the traffic at clinics, rehab centers, and morgues.
The previous alcohol prohibition did not reduce abuse or demand, it created a violent black market.
And in the name of barely hidden politics, this nation is being led down the path of another prohibition that will be even more violent in its nature; if drug cartels are willing to wage battles at our borders, and drug dealers are willing to wage battles on our street corners, then what are gun dealers in the new black market going to be willing to do?
Barely hidden politics: the hairshirt that the 2nd Amendment has always been to the Progressives who see it as an impolite impediment to implementing forced association in America; victims here won't march passively to any re-education camps, gulags, or concentration camps, unlike in Kampuchea, Burma, the USSR, and Europe.
CT had an assault weapons ban in place...which did not ban this particular weapon. Of course that won't be enough to eliminate fringe, rare mayhem. And so, after the next rare, fringe incident(far less common that DUI abuse), the next call will be for forced confiscation, retroactive. (Laurence O'Donnel is already publicly calling for that, with impunity.)
