That was beautifully written.

That was a nice tribute. The 60 Minutes segment on Sully was moving. Also admirable were the "first responders", the people on boats who quickly rescued the plane passengers.

Thanks Ed, and Merlin.  The story, and the pilot (after seeing the interview on 60 Minutes) captivated me. I had to say something about it.

I think a couple good questions to ask about the incident are:
1. Was Sully's act self-sacrifice?
2. Did Sully act in self-interest?
With the answers being 'no' and 'yes', it should make one question a moral code that says self-sacrifice is good and self-interest is bad.

Well done, Teresa. It was a joy to read that.

I would add that the virtue of productivity isn't as visible in the articles and discussions of Sully as it should be. (Or in our culture at large.) If he hadn't been a man who spent many, many long hours studying, thinking, training, practicing and paying attention to detail, his exercise of courage would not have been successful. The foundation of his heroic act is in his unrelenting, professional excellence which he's developed and exercised for decades.
