Ed,

You can't even imagine how crazy the media is around here over this.

This was published in the Free Press this morning and handed out to every US Congressman.  I particularly like the thinly veiled UAW "blood on your hands" threat of violence. Nice.

Threats, claims, and more threats.

No wonder The Detroit Free Press is going under too.

I had to laugh on my way to work this morning at a radio interview with some turkey in Washington that has a scare site, www.theengineofdemocracy.com .  The unemployment prediction jumped from 3 million (which is crap) to 6 million!  This guy says in one breath "GM holds up the whole economy.." and in the next says, "none of this was GM's fault."

The Engine of Democracy Hockey Jersey

This is the craziest thing I've ever witnessed in my life.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how nervous are members here about losing their jobs?  I'm at a 3.

Somehow, in our national state of economic illiteracy, selling each new car at a $780 loss is "holding up the economy," and it is because they are selling so many at a loss, they are "too big to fail," but they won't be able to continue to fail, unless we take money away from profitable workers and businesses so they can continue to make losses. I think I'll go somewhere and cry.

"Dodge Responsibility" -- pretty good one, Ed.

Did you have a premonition that GM will resurrect Oldsmobile?  :-)

I didn't know that Oldsmobile had been discontinued.

Yeah, Olds has been gone for a couple of years (but you can still get parts! Imagine that!)

Saturn may be next.  I thought Saturn made some of their best selling cars, but I guess not.

I drove Olds for years... loved their wagons, but switched to a Jeep.

The following was printed in our local paper's Letter to the Editor column

Detroit says they're failing and need money because we didn't buy enough of their cars. Now the government wants to take our money, and give it to the automakers. So, now they're still getting our money, and we don't even get a car!

"Chrysler Comrade", "Chevy Czar". Prehaps if some other industries get into trouble you can have a cool sip of "Coke Mandatory" while you drive your "Comrade" to your new "Super Citizen Mandatory Volunteer Job" at "People's sewage treatment facility # 3"

Maybe we can start referring to a politician as a "cut-throat, tyrant, subjectivist power-broker."

Mommie: Johnny, what do you want to be when you grow up?

Little Johnny: Mommie, I want to be a cut-throat, tyrant, subjectivist power-broker!

Mommie: That's nice, Dear.

I don't know about the cars, but I have a good name for whatever re-organized nationalized two comes out of the once Big 3 in Detroit:

The dead vegetative residue on the floor of a forest is called 'detritus'.

If you add an 'O' (maybe Obama can do that), you get 'Detroitus.'

I think it would be entirely appropriate to call our newly nationalized auto industry in Detroit 'Detroitus.'

Entirely.

regards,
Fred
