Super, Teresa. I especially loved the graphics ... the red train and the black skyline, together, swirling into the future. This is really well done. I hope the movie lives up to it. This is indeed uplifting for Objectivism, but can you anticipate the furor and outrage of the masses? I can. I had problems with the speed of downloading, however, even though I didn't have a problem with other sites.

Paul, I thought it was just my crappy old computer hiccuping with the video, but I guess not. The video's formatting must be set too high.

Can't wait to see it. I hope it's open for a wide release, or goes to DVD immediately.

I don't think the "masses" will be outraged - it is a small minority that will be outraged - the welfare recipients and others who feel militantly entitled, the militantly Christian, and the progressives. I think that they are a much smaller number than one would assume from how vocal they are (due to the MSM).

More and more we see the poll numbers telling us that the majority of the people are no longer buying the progressives' party line. Obama is in perpetual campaign mode, the MSM only presents his points, the intellectuals and academics cheer his messages, and only a portion of the political internet and Fox News are consistently giving the other side... yet the "masses" are taking positions contrary to Obama.

I think this is a milestone of sorts, this point where the MSM, the usual collection of intellectuals and talking-heads, and the majority of the politicians are not having the strong effect in shifting public opinion that they once did. We are seeing a weaning away which is leaving the dedicated ideologues, the angry haters, and the insistent welfare recipients standing exposed and everyone else either standing to the side or opposed to the direction that government is going.

I have to respectfully disagree with you. Even though the tide is turning away from Obama I think that the culture of altruism hasn't changed much. Anger at capitalism, as it's perceived, is rampant. Religious fervor is very high, as evidenced by Glenn Beck's otherwise stellar views and presentations. (I had to turn off his program yesterday in disgust and disappointment.)

I'm optimistic that the movie will be influential in the next election and that it will open the minds of many. The controversy can only be positive for Objectivism.

I don't think we are in much disagreement. I just used the tide turning against Obama as an example. I agree that the underlying altruism is still a major problem - but not in the narrower context in which I was talking. And it is a matter of degree. People are comfortable (to a degree) with where they stand relative to Altruism until something generates dissonance for them in that area and in this case, Obama is showing that political applications of altruism are NOT what people want. He has forced them to realize that they are more Capitalist than socialist.

Most of the anger at capitalism is either displaced frustration over the economy and a product of ignorance regarding Wall Street, and only a small portion is a real hatred or opposition to capitalism.

Religion doesn't factor into what I was discussing (I had the same reaction to Beck's religiosity).

You speculated that the masses would be outraged with the ideas of Atlas Shrugged when they see the movie. I still think that only the usual suspects will renew their existing outrage. If the movie does come out, and if it is decent, then my bet is that it is massively popular.

I love the fact that Obama is splitting us all into the pro-Capitalism or pro-Socialism camps. Long overdue.

I agree that it will be popular, but not with the majority of viewers and I think that a lot of people won't bother to see the movie because they think they know what it's about ... just as I didn't go to see any of Michael Moore's movies.

I agree.

My perception is that there is so much outrage over executive salaries, Wall Street misdeeds and the greedy oil companies that this is where the tainting of capitalism by a lot of people, not necessarily died-in-the-wool "progressives," is occurring. From where I stand, I would guess that at least 70% of the population has that negative view.
