>But in the case of using a zoning ordinance or building code or something to stop the mosque is the opposite. There would be little to no public outrage. It would be taking a bad law and using it to achieve an end run around property rights.<<

Either we have zoning ordinance or building code or something or we don't. If we have all these laws they should be applied equally. Applying these laws only to regular citizens in not publicized cases leads to inequality before the law. Our lawmakers should have a dilemma - either they re-write the law or blah blah blah ;0) (see my post 16). They want it, they should re-enforce the basic American freedoms. I like to see that.

Right now freedom in America exists only in a form of public pressure. I like to see it set in written laws.

When it's done - let them built the mosque. Why should I have anything against it? :0)

But Maria, they don't EVER stop the building of a mosque with the zoning or building codes. Look at all of the mosques all over the country that have been built. They let them build them, or churches or synagogues or office building as per law. But now people are asking that these laws be mis-applied because of the nearness to ground zero. You want equality under the law, then demand that they not single out this project to be treated differently. And then demand that they get rid of all such laws as immoral and unconstitutional restrictions on property rights.

I am against the mosque - everyone should be. Like I am against people abusing drugs. But I stand up for everyone's right to build a mosque or to take drugs. Because something is immoral or distasteful doesn't mean it should be illegal. There are no laws on the books now that say you cannot build a mosque in that area. Existing laws should not be twisted around or misinterpreted to stop the mosque.

Prior to 9/11, Pearl Harbor was the standard for 'hallowed ground' made hallow by the lives of thousands of dead Americans killed in a sneak attack.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries built the Zeros that Japan used to wage WWII.

On the shores of Pearl Harbor, within sight of the Arizona Memorial, we find this installation of modern commerce:

It is at the red "A" in this map.

Give us time, we're a very forgiving nation. As long as you don't paint meatballs on the sides of those Lancers, we're fine.

Interesting that we never built a Manhattan Project nuclear reactor in Hiroshima.

Pearl Harbor was at least a military target.

Attacked by real military personnel, with a chain of command, and uniforms, too.
