I agree. And, in his defense, he does say he does not believe that any one specific religion should receive state sanction. (He uses the Church of England as an example.)

But it is odd for a man who has for so long been reputed to be a libertarian not to embrace such a basic principle as separation of church and state, or attempt to redefine it to make it toothless.

Obama is the Way and the Truth and the Life?

I find Peikoff's fears about the 2006 election much more applicable to the current election. Romney and Huckabee are flat-out scary, and Huckabee actually seems to mean what he says. I'm still gung-ho for Giuliani, and thank God he's a secular nominal Catholic. Even Clinton's pandering is obscene. And the latest trend of Oprah annointing Obama as "someone who doesn't just say the truth, but who is the Truth" is friggin messianic. Jesus is the Way and the Truth and the Life. Does she think Obama's the second coming? Obama's a pretty-faced non-entity who's getting the anyone but Clinton or Edwards vote. How much of his vote is now going to be Oprahypnotized toothy-grin besotted bible-belt belles?

Agghh!

An article at today's NRO Online makes the interesting points that
- Winfrey has been caught up in hoaxes more than once before;
- Celebrity endorsements are worthless for winning elections.

The answers to  your questions are, respectively, maybe, but it's nothing to worry about and near enough to none.

I totally agree with your interpretation of Dr. Paul's words. He never once said that the terrorist attacks of 9/11 were okay, but rather that the United States government played a part in their origin due to their arrogant meddling in other countries' affairs.
