| | Interesting analysis, Tibor. Regarding Fischer's article, I can buy Fischer's premise that "there is no one true definition of liberty and freedom in the world." However, I have a harder time with his claim that freedom refers to the "rights of collective belonging." Apparently Fischer has written a book on the topic, "Liberty and Freedom: A Visual History of America's Founding Ideas." I just read the product description and two reviews on Amazon.com. I was expecting to find a political agenda, based primarily on the fact that he seemed determined to get the word "collective" into his NYTimes article as often as possible. However, I did not get the impression that Fischer has a political axe to grind, though he is no doubt left leaning. I guess maybe he is just "inadvertantly" undermining the meaning of these concepts, as Tibor suggests. -Matt
