"One of the most important steps in AA is to make a list of all the things you've done wrong to other people in your life, and to make amends for them as well as you can." I read this sentence, and my very first thought, for whatever it's worth, was how about making a list of all the things you've done wrong to yourself, and making amends. Of course these two are not mutually exclusive. A second thought is that the list of wrongs to yourself might well need to include some summaries, rather than list every particular instance, although you should list individually the particular instances that are most important to you. On a few occasions I've gotten drunk enough to feel good about it at the time. My reaction afterwards is that such things contribute little to my life and may become dangerous, so it is better to avoid them. One time when this happened the hostess was amused, but my wife was not. Coming out from anesthesia can be very similar. One time I even said "I have a right to be silly. I'm recovering from anesthesia." One time when some others and I had been burning midnight oil, I made a remark to the effect that going without sleep was like being drunk, and added "woohoo".
