At first, I must admit that I said "oh nice, look another flower painting."

Its like this, I hate still life, this is mostly a personal thing for me, pictures of fruit on a table or flowers in a bowl always seem to remind me of well...the boreing static nature of the last period of artistic realism.  Today we may be standing on the edge of a new shift in art back to realism.  This is not just old time realism however, this is romantic realism.  The reach out and touch you kind of dynamic that is seen in the works of Larsen are the new element to this type of art.  Its inspireing to view the paintings, they are technical masterworks and you stand simply amazed before the paintings seeing the movement in them, though they do not move.

This still life, is not!  To the credit of the artist this is the first still life I have seen that I have enjoyed ever.  Simply put this picture is in motion, if you take the time to sit still and view it you can see the droplets of water seeming to always be on the verge of falling right out of the painting onto your very keyboard.  It is only because of this motion that I enjoy this still life, because without it, it's just another flower painting.

Truly,

Eric J. Tower
