I am a financial institutions and monetary policy consultant in Alexandria, Virginia, near Washington, D.C. I was raised in the 1940s and 1950s in a Cleveland suburb where both my parents held strong libertarian views (they were Taft Republicans), even though that word was not yet in the political vocabulary. I have been active with The Objectivist Center, having attended the last seven TOC Summer Seminars. I am a strong supporter of David Kelley's view that Objectivism must build on Rand's work and not be constrained by what she wrote and said; i.e., I am not an Objectivist fundamentalist. I also have been a supporter of and adjunct scholar at the Cato Institute for over 20 years. Although I am not a lawyer, I have a strong interest in SoloLaw. In that regard, I must thank Bill Perry at TOC for alerting me to SoloLaw. At several Summer Seminars, I have presented a two-part participant-sponsored session titled "Governance and the State in a Libertarian/Objectivist Society." I hope to continue building on that work in future years, drawing extensively on my professional consulting experience inside the Washington Beltway. Unlike many Objectivist theorists, I work on a daily basis with law-making and government regulation. That work has given me important insights into human conflicts and travails, which even Objectivists cannot easily dismiss, that provide the rationale for rational law and governance within our large, complex society.
