¿Porqué No Te Callas?

¿Porqué No Te Callas?

God Bless King Juan Carlos.

This phrase is being mistranslated in English as "Why don't you shut up?" This mistranslation implies that the King is making a suggestion. Actually, by using the verb in the indicative, callas and not the subjunctive calles (which is used for suggestions) Juan Carlos is saying: "Why aren't you shutting up?"

The difference is subtle but profound.
