Free to Die
Posted by William Dwyer on 9/17, 2:23pm
Paul Krugman has written a ringing condemnation of those who oppose a right to health care. Taking a page out of Milton Friedman's "Free to Choose," he characterizes the opposition as endorsing the motto "free to die." Ignoring the difference between voluntary charity and forced contributions, he claims that those who oppose a right to health care lack compassion. He even cites Friedrich Hayek, who declared in “The Road to Serfdom” his support for “a comprehensive system of social insurance” to protect citizens against “the common hazards of life.”
