| THE AYN RAND READER is a compilation of excerpts from Rand's fiction and nonfiction writing; it is edited by Leonard Peikoff and Gary Hull. In his Preface, Gary Hull states: "I have, of course, made no changes in AR's own words." Oh? The excerpt "Attila and the Witch Doctor," originally published in THE NEW INTELLECTUAL, contained Rand's footnote, as follows: "I am indebted to Nathaniel Branden for many valuable observations on this subject, and for his eloquent designation of the two archetypes, which I shall use hereafter: Attila and the Witch Doctor." The paragraph to which this footnote is keyed is quoted in its entirety in the READER. The footnote is omitted. Barbara | ||
