TAS has huge success at CPAC conference Posted by Robert Bidinotto on 3/03, 8:58pm
Just a follow-up report about my appearance on "Air America," discussed on this thread. Here I am with Air America host Thom Hartmann; appropriately, I am the one on the right. My Air America appearance was in conjunction with The Atlas Society's presence at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on March 1-3. What better place to challenge conservatives than right in the middle of their biggest annual conference? And, in fact, our presence was felt strongly throughout the event by its thousands of attendees. I've posted an updated report, along with photos from the conference, here on my blog. TAS distributed some 5,000 copies of the March issue of The New Individualist in the conference bags received by each participant. It features my hard-hitting new cover-story challenge to the right, "Up from Conservatism." We also inserted a book we've just published, Straight Talk About the Soul of the Republican Party, containing essays by David Kelley, Ed Hudgins, and me. In addition, Ed Hudgins and I appeared on stage in several panel sessions. Here I am as emcee of the global warming panel in the Omni Shoreham Hotel's gigantic Regency Ballroom, which was packed for the session. I believe we scored especially strongly with the many, many people who stopped by our booth to discuss Rand and Objectivism and to pick up back issues of The New Individualist. In this photo are The Atlas Society's operations director, Gene Holloway, posing with my indispensable TNI managing editor, Sherrie Gossett. We came away from CPAC with fistfuls of business cards and scores of names on our sign-up sheet from people "on the right" and in the media who are open to our philosophical message. Meanwhile, TAS executive director Ed Hudgins was a panelist on a conference on why businessmen fail to defend themselves against leftist attacks; his remarks were covered by C-SPAN. Ed also had his own interview appearance on Air America. Here is a shot of his sparring session with host Thom Hartmann. All in all, TAS's presence at CPAC was a HUGE success, helping to put both the organization and The New Individualist on the radar screens of many on the right and in the media.
