Government Licenses First Private Rocket
Posted by G. Stolyarov II on 4/08/2004, 6:29pm
This is a colossal leap in the liberation of space from statist monopoly and its coming availability for private development.

Here is a quote from Burt Rutan, the heroic founder of Scaled Composites, the company responsible for designing the new SpaceShipOne, a suborbital rocket that will be included in a privately sponsored international space competition championed by such notable individuals as Dennis Tito, the pioneering space tourist, and John Glenn, the first American to orbit the Earth.

"I strongly feel that, if we are successful, our program will mark the beginning of a renaissance for manned space flight. This might even be similar to that wonderful time period between 1908 and 1912 when the world went from a total of ten airplane pilots to hundreds of airplane types and thousands of pilots in 39 countries. We need affordable space travel to inspire our youth."
