Six days from today, SOLO-DC will hike seven miles of the challenging terrain of Gathland, a lake-centered forest which joins a unique architectural estate. Sherpa Jim Robbins will lead the trek over the ridge, to a tract of land on South Mountain which houses the 20 structures of George Alfred Townsend, architect, and the youngest war correspondent of the Civil War. Although the rugged buildings are all individual in purpose and design, the most striking is a monument to 157 correspondents and war artists who saw and described the terrible events in narrative and picture. Yaks will be packed and ready Sunday a.m., details to issue by Thursday. If you wish to join us, please contact Julia Brent, SOLO-DC Coordinator.
