Alexander Feht

Violin Sonatas 1 & 2This disc includes two Violin Sonatas written by Alexander Feht in 1982 in Siberia. They were recorded in Moscow, and digitally remastered by Stephen Tholberg in Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

ALEXANDER FEHT (composer)

Alexander Feht was born in 1961 near Siberian city of Novosibirsk in Russia. He received formal musical education (piano, violin, musical theory and composition) but considers himself mostly self-taught. In 1987 he emigrated with his wife and son to the United States as a political refugee. He currently earns his living as a translator, and writes Russian poetry and music in Colorado Rocky Mountains. So far, he has written more than 100 art songs inspired by Russian, English, American, French, Italian, and German classical poetry, a one-act opera (The City of the Plague), three string quartets, four piano and violin sonatas, and several other works for chamber ensembles.

EVDOKIA IONINA (violinist)

Eudokia Ionina is well known among the Moscow concert going public; she was born in 1976 in the same Siberian Academy town where Alex Feht grew up. In 1995 she graduated from the Novosibirsk Conservatory (under professor Gvozdev), and in 2000 from the Moscow Conservatory (under professor Melnikov). Eudokia Ionina is a winner of several Zakhar Bron International Competitions for Young Violinists, gave concerts in Large and Small Halls of the Moscow Conservatory, in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, as well as in several major art museums. She appeared as a soloist with the Musica Viva chamber orchestra, and in ensembles with Anastasia Sidelnikova, Alexander Rudin, Sergey Poltavsky, Asiya Korepanova, Sergey Chechyotko, Lubov Gromoglasova, and Vladimir Tropp. She participated in the International Festival «La Folle Journée» in Nantes. Eudokia Ionina is a laureate of the International Festival of Arts «Arkhangelskoye: Mysteria».

ASIYA KOREPANOVA (pianist)

Asiya Korepanova is a concert pianist and a soloist of the Moscow State Philharmonic Society. Born in Izhevsk, Udmurtia, in a family of professional musicians, she started playing piano at the age of four. From 2001 to 2006, Asiya studied piano in the class of Professor Elisso Virssaladze in the Moscow State Chopin College and the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Graduated in 2009, she had been selected by the State Commission as the best pianist-graduate of Conservatory. Asiya became the prizewinner of numerous international piano competitions, the most significant being N. Rubinstein Piano Competition (Paris 1997) and Classical Heritage Competition (1st prize in both piano and composition, Moscow 1998). She won the Russian Federation President’s Award for Exceptional Achievement in the Arts at the age of 12 (1997). Later her talent was marked by the National Award from the Republic of Udmurtia, the Berliner Salon Award (2003) and the most prestigious Russian prize for achievements in art and literature “Triumph” (youth category, 2005). In 2009 she became an Honored Artist of her native Udmurtia Republic and a soloist of the Moscow Philharmonic Society. Her enormous repertoire includes more than 45 concertos with orchestra including complete concertos of Prokofiev, Beethoven, Brahms, Liszt, Chopin and Ravel. She has made numerous recordings on television and radio. She also appeared in concerts with various symphony orchestras, in addition to playing solo recitals in major concert halls in Russian Federation, Germany, Austria, Greece, Spain, France, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Israel, Kuwait, Syria, India, Great Britain and Australia.
