The Sociopath Next Door by Martha Stout | ||||
I haven't read this book, but I'm considering it. The following is from a review: "They are often described as people who know the difference between right and wrong but don't care. Insofar as they make the distinction between right and wrong, they do so at a purely intellectual level. Otherwise, the only thing that constrains the behavior of sociopaths is the fear of adverse consequences to themselves." The other thing that caught my attention: "One of their chief characteristics is a kind of glow or charisma that makes sociopaths more charming or interesting than the other people around them. They’re more spontaneous, more intense, more complex, or even sexier than everyone else, making them tricky to identify and leaving us easily seduced." According to the author, one person in twenty-five is a sociopath.
