My revision of Desiderata
My revision of Desiderata

My attempt to improve on (i.e., to "fix") the imperfections of Desiderata. Some might gasp at that. Some may become furious. I admit that it does seem pretty haughty for me to take someone's art and treat it as if it were a bucket full of holes -- only to attempt to fill in the holes myself. It's either terribly insulting to the original artist, or it's the greatest compliment you could give them.

Some may say: "Don't knock it until you try it" or "Why don't you create something instead of knocking something down?" I have got to concede that point (it's a great point, actually). My only response -- and it is admittedly only a response and not a rebuttal -- my only response is that I still am selectively recreating reality according to my own metaphysical value-judgements; I'm just selecting to recreate another's work (effectively passing judgment on it). It's what I might try to call an exercise in "interpretive art" -- my interpretation of deficiency in Ehrmann's art. (Read the entire blog entry)

Lifeboat Ethics Reconsidered
Lifeboat Ethics Reconsidered

Real lifeboat situations are very much a part of our world.  You can find more than enough examples just by putting “cruise ship accident” into your Internet search engine.  Another set of even more desperate circumstances can be found with an online search for “nightclub fire.”  (Read the entire blog entry)
