Considering some recent topics, a change of pace is in order, so I thought I should take a moment to speak of something beautiful.
While I do enjoy and appreciate art greatly, it is my wife that profoundly loves it. So, recently I decided to purchase a work of art for my wife, a surprise gift for Christmas. I was planning on buying a pastel painting, but Stephen Hicks beat me to it. As it turns out this was for the best. In the end a man I have come to like very much gave me a couple of art lessons; among those lessons was that art is a very personal experience, and so as a surprise gift, it will usually fail.
Instead I chose to tell my wife of my plans for her Christmas gift, and let her pick a painting of her own choosing. There were 2 results to this; A) the price of the artwork I was planning to buy went up 8 fold! and B) she confirmed the lesson that the young artist was teaching me about art as a personal experience.
Today, I opened a crate containing a painting and gave it to my wife as a present. She was thrilled, and I have attained deity status for at least 2 or 3 weeks! I present to you Ladies and Gentlemen a painting from a wonderful young artist and a friend, with no further ado - Michael Newberry’sGlass Jar with Chocolate Boxes (2004):
