From the Executive Director: Executive Update for September, 2004 Posted by Joseph Rowlands on 9/30/2004, 11:42am | ||
September was another good month for SOLO. Our membership went up by about 18%. We've added new products and new features. We've started plans for the next SOLO Conference (intended for next year in LA). And we've kept the article output very high, thanks to the dedication of our wonderful group of writers. There have been plenty of discussions and debates. There were arguments over the nature of pragmatism, and whether voting for a non-ideal candidate necessarily implied immorality. There were heated arguments over whether homosexuality was immoral or not. There were a few debates about the nature of Kant, the nature of art, and the nature of medical malpractice lawsuits. And of course, plentiful references to food and sex. And now for more data for you to peruse. Staff Changes:1.) Matthew Humphreys has taken over full time as the Moderator on the SOLO Yahoo forum.Product News:1.)The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible: A Free Market Odyssey - Barry Kayton has just printed Ken Schoolland's tales of Jonathan Gullible, for sale at the SOLO Store 2.) The two audio CDs by Lindsay Perigo have been reduced in price. In addition, we sell an electronic version as well. Now $7.50 for the CD (US shipping free), and $5.00 for the electronic version. New SOLOHQ Features:1.) Poetry Section– this existed on the old SOLOHQ site, but wasn't successfully ported2.) Games - we added the first SOLO game. Help Lindsay save his wine! 3.) Under the Jokes category, we've added "Riddles". It might not be obvious. 4.) The FreeRad articles now have a special FreeRad icon to distinguish them. 5.) The SOLO Store icon has been added to the front page right above the random product display. Job Openings:1.) Internet Promoter (aka, Internet Whore) – Somebody willing to go onto other forums and sites and relentlessly promote SOLO. Distributing this Executive Update is one possible function of the promoter.2.) SOLO NZ Coordinator – someone to decorate the portal page, possibly coordinate conferences/meetings Activism:Want to help take over the world? Here are some simple ideas you can do to help.1.) Send us boatloads of money. 2.) Bookmark our Amazon referral page http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/importanceofp-20 so that we get a percent of Amazon's profits from your purchases. Lots of people use Amazon, and if you use our associate program, we benefit at no cost to you. 3.) Put www.solohq.com in your email signature file. It's an easy way to spread the word about the best Objectivist website on the planet. 4.) Do you have a webpage? Add a link to SoloHQ.com. Also, add a link to our Ayn Rand page at http://www.solohq.com/ayn_rand/ayn_rand.shtml and our Objectivism page at http://www.solohq.com/Objectivism/. These improve our Google ranking and make it easier for young minds to find passionate reason and rational passion on the web.
