From the Executive Director: Executive Update for January, 2005 Posted by Joseph Rowlands on 1/31, 10:23pm | ||
The start of the new year is very promising for SOLO. Membership is up to 971, an increase of 101. We have 4 new authors, and 43 new articles. Growth is steady or increasing. Look in your mailboxes for the brand new edition of the FreeRadical, a special issue celebration the 100th birthday of Ayn Rand. If you haven't subscribed to the Free Radical, you should now. Click here to subscribe! The big news is that SOLOC 4, the next SOLO Conference, is ready to go. We've rented a beach house in sunny California as our venue. The date is set for April 22-April 27. There will be a kick-off speech by Lindsay Perigo, and more presentations to be announced later. Details will follow shortly, but mark your calendars! New Staff:1.) Tim Sturm has taken over as SOLO Economics leader. 2.) Hong Zhang is the new SOLO Parenting leader New SOLOHQ Features:1.) SOLO Parenting: a forum for people interesting in children, parenting, and related topics 2.) I updated the software to hopefully be faster for posting. If you've noticed a speedup, that would be it. 3.) Solo Local Clubs and Interest Groups are now alphabetical 4.) I've added new "Reprise" software to run past SoloHQ articles without creating duplicate articles or forums. SOLO Feature review:For those who haven't noticed, on the front page left side bar is a feature called SoloMail. You can send private messages to one another through this interface. If you click on "View Inbox", it'll take you to a screen that lists all of your messages. If you click the "Read" button on the front page, it'll automatically take you to the page with the most recent unread SoloMail. If you click "Send" button on the front page, you can send a SoloMail to any other member. There is a quota of 200 messages, which means if you go over the limit, it will start deleting earlier messages. When you received Atlas points for your contributions on SOLO, a message will be sent to you by "Admin" that lets you know. If you do not want to receive these Atlas notifications, you can edit your preferences to not receive them. Activists Wanted:1.) Public Relations Director – Someone to present SOLO to the outside world. Part advertising, part communication, total passion. 2.) SOLO NZ Coordinator – someone to decorate the portal page, possibly coordinate conferences/meetings Activism:Want to help take over the world? Here are some simple ideas you can do to help. 1.) Take this time to contribute money and help pay for SOLOHQ. We take credit card. 2.) Write articles. 3.) Bookmark our Amazon referral page http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/importanceofp-20 so that we get a percent of Amazon's profits from your purchases. Lots of people use Amazon, and if you use our associate program, we benefit at no cost to you. You can right click on this link and "Add to Favorites" or "Bookmark this link". 4.) Put www.solohq.com in your email signature file. It's an easy way to spread the word about the best Objectivist website on the planet. 5.) Do you have a webpage? Add a link to SoloHQ.com. Also, add a link to our Ayn Rand page at http://www.solohq.com/ayn_rand/ayn_rand.shtml and our Objectivism page at http://www.solohq.com/Objectivism/. These improve our Google ranking and make it easier for young minds to find passionate reason and rational passion on the web.
