The Three Parties The fundamental attitude and viewpoint of the Republicans and Democrats is anti-choice and anti-live-and-let-live. Both nominally pro-American groups are weighted down with a stunning array of anti-Founding Father "good ideas" about society, the economy, and how to create a social utopia thereof. And because these largely irrational and fanatical ideas and ideals will allegedly make everyone good and happy, the Republicans and Democrats desperately want to shove them down our throats. These two dreadful ideological blocs don't much desire to persuade us about the virtue and wisdom of their cockamamie, anti-freedom theories -- they mostly desire to coerce us. They do so "for our own good" and "for the general good." Sadly for all, the Republicans and Democrats have many bizarre and insulting ideas about the Holy Individual upon which they base their foolish and depraved socio-economic and political beliefs. They basically really think he needs a lot of government force in his life to successfully guide and uplift him. It's worth noting that even extreme Republican and Democratic types such as Hitler and Stalin -- which seem like dead opposites at first glance, and in their various convoluted governmental theories -- find it very easy to agree and cooperate. This phenomenon was seen at the beginning of World War II as well as the recent nuclear collusion between Pakistan and North Korea. Mutual support of this type is common because the surface differences between right and left are just that. Ultimately, both Republicans and Democrats are very alike in their anti-individualism and general adherence to tyranny and totalitarian enslavement. The essence of Republicanism is a desire to protect the supposedly vulnerable, corruptible, weak, stupid individual from his own (sinful) Self. The essence of Democratism is a desire to protect the supposedly ignorant, foolish, weak, stupid individual from (predatory) Big Business. Neither enemy is actually real, and both political groups regard the untouchable and sacred self with great cynicism and contempt. For the Republicans, this attack on the individual and his freedom means championing "vice" and "victimless crime" laws about drugs, sex, and gambling. It means prohibitions on shockingly personal choices like abortion, birth control, divorce, suicide, and euthanasia. It means social regimentation like prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance, bible study, and nationalist indoctrination in the government ("public") schools. For the Democrats, this attack on the individual and his freedom means laws on minimum/living wages and rent/price controls. It means regulation of all aspects of business, commerce, and finance. It means government benefits and shockingly expensive "entitlements" like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Welfare. Both political groups are such lovers and practitioners of totalitarianism, it's a wonder anyone ever votes for them! Clearly we need an alternative. Libertarians may have a poor grounding in philosophy and ethics, and they may be dishonest about how radical and revolutionary they really are, but they're far and away superior to the lowly Democrats and Republicans. Voting for either of these last two makes you responsible for their evil acts, since they act in your name, and with your mandate. Voting Republican or Democratic constitutes an immense moral sanction of their depravity and tyranny. Recall the obvious point that "the lesser of two evils" still is evil. And this is something the Libertarians basically aren't. Unlike the Republicans and Democrats, Libertarians rather love the individual, and are neither fascists nor socialists. Because there is no Objectivist or highly principled classical liberal party currently in existence, if you're going to vote or have to vote, vote Libertarian! Discuss this Article (0 messages) |
