Poetry

The Munificent Seven
by John Paul Sherman

Hare's Breadth

Armored with grasses,
Alert to the point of pain,
Watching the fox pass.

Dark Desire

Breathless, the soft night
Longed for some swift act -- even
The low swoop of claws.

Pebbled Repose

Thick quilts of shadow
Tucked in the bed of a brook
Chuckling in sleep.

Necessities

With a browser's eye
I learned of stars and their prices;
Then paid, gladly, all.

Quantus Lingus

The tongues of crickets
Have much, much to say; but much
Along the same lines.

Dry Goods, Wet Weather

Dripping with regrets,
I ducked, dodged, yearning for less
Experienced clothes.

The Transient and the Concrete

How brief was the thrill
Of banana-peel footing;
How hard the humor.
