Radio Opportunity Vanishes into Mystical Fog
by Luke Setzer

My personal Web site has the title "Attitude Adjustment" because I consider that to be the central theme of the material I present there.  The employment of Objectivism in conjunction with personal dreams, values, and goals and other material aimed at flourishing do indeed empower a person to adjust his attitude about living.  Such a theme drew the attention recently of a radio talk show host.

I received the following e-mail in early January 2006:

I host a radio topical talk show in Annapolis, Maryland called "Real Talk for Real People" on 1430 AM WNAV.   The show airs every Tuesday at 6:00 pm.   I was searching the Web and came across your Web site on attitude.  My show on January 17, 2006 is entitled "I Need a Fix -- I Need an Attitude Adjustment for 2006."  If at all possible, would you be able to be my guest on that show to discuss some of the points you have listed on your Web site like the dreams list, values list, and goals list?  In studio would be great if you are in the area, if not we can tape it by phone.  Thank you for your time and consideration and I am anticipating your response.

I enthusiastically replied:

Sure, I am interested.  I practice a philosophy called Objectivism.  Check this http://www.rebirthofreason.com/Florida/ link for more on Objectivism and attitude.  I live in Florida, so you would have to tape my portion!  Let me know if and when you would like to schedule an appointment.

To which the host replied:

Thank you for your response and the Web link.  I just need to ask a question: Does everyone who adheres to Objectivism -- or if not everyone, most -- not believe in God, meaning they do not believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior?

To which I responded:

Correct.  Objectivism adheres to a fully naturalistic world view.  It rejects notions of the supernatural, divine revelation, and an afterlife.  It considers all variants of these views, whether Christianity, Hinduism, etc. to be remnants of primitive man's attempts to explain the world via religious precepts.  Further expounding on this, it also rejects pure materialism -- the notion that all actions are fully determined and that free will is an illusion.  Unlike determinists and their intellectual cousins, Marxists, we accept free will as self-evident.  As a result, we support liberty of person and property and the right of a human being to his own life.  We reject "Higher Causes" of all stripes, religious or secular, in favor of rational egoism as the central ethical principle.  For more on all this, visit http://www.importanceofphilosophy.com.

To which she responded:

Thank you for the explanation. "Real Talk for Real People" is a faith based talk show designed to strengthen the faith of believers in Jesus Christ and giving those that do not currently believe in Jesus an opportunity to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.  In light of your explanation, Objectivism does not embrace the concept of the program and does not fit the subject matter of the planned show.  I thank you for your time and attention.

Well!  I have just gotten the kibosh without even trying!  I thought this exchange humorous enough to share.  I hope it brought a smile to the reader's face.
