Showtime! SoloHQ 2.0
by Lindsay Perigo

Below is a message from SOLO’s Executive Director Joseph Rowlands. It heralds the arrival of the much-anticipated SOLOHQ 2.0. Joe & SOLOHQ’s web master, Jeff Landauer have been slaving away for months bringing this new, more interactive site to life. I salute them on its birth.

This is another milestone in SOLO’s short history, on a par with the founding of SOLO itself, with SOLOHQ 1.0, with the conferences & mini-conferences SOLO has held, with the publication of its first monograph, Ayn Rand, Homosexuality & Human Liberation by Chris Matthew Sciabarra. There are many more milestones to come.

In the meantime, I urge you to explore the delights of SOLOHQ 2.0 & savour the pleasures & challenges of this virtual-reality Galt’s Gulch.

Welcome to the new SOLOHQ website.

The new website is a major step forward for SOLO.  Not only does it clean up a lot of the missing functionality in SOLOHQ 1.0, but it provides a solid foundation for the future expansion.

The first major change is the creation of user accounts.  People can sign up, verifying their accounts by email, and have a personalized experience at SOLOHQ.  You can decide to limit the number of posts on the front page from anywhere between 0 and 2000.  You can decide to display all messages, or just the ones you haven't read yet.  You can display more articles/galleries on the front page, the kinds of articles you want to see, and customize your own Objectivism web directory.  You can have posts sent to you by email, and you can select which boards you want emails from.

The website also has enhanced user-driven content.  The new 'Galleries' on the 'Spirit' page allows users to add quotes, movies, books, news link, and so much more to come.  Looking for a good book?  How about a sense-of-life movie?  With GalleryTech 2000, the members of SOLO can share all kinds of information.  And of course, there are forums to comment on all of these.

Additionally, we have an easier way to show your preferences.  Galleries can be given a vote of confidence by each user.  You can then view the different Galleries by the ranking of your fellow SOLOists.  You can even pick "favorite" galleries, to let others know which is your top pick.  You can even "sanction" or "not sanction" posts in the various forums.  Don't like writing "Yeah!  I agree with him!"?  Well, now you can more easily give a contributor a pat on the back.  (Or a punch in the gut, as the case may be!)
