The United States of America
by Marty Lewinter

They came from many distant shores
Proudly standing tall.
They had their fill of tyranny –
They answered freedom's call.

It started as a tiny colony.
Soon they were ten million strong.
What a land of opportunity
And a people bursting with song.

"The United States of America –
Haven for the oppressed.
The United States of America –
May she ever be blessed.
The United States of America –
The land of the brave and the free.
The United States of America –
Fortress of liberty."

The long arm of the British crown
Stretched across the sea.
So the colonists took up arms
Against that monarchy.

They forged a brand new nation.
A first in history.
The people elected presidents –
'Twas the birth of democracy.

In the evil twentieth century,
The Fascist crawled out from the slime.
Millions died in Hitler's war –
Earth's most desperate time.

Our nation sent her sons to fight.
Many did not return.
But their deeds will be remembered –
Freedom's flame will eternally burn.

"The United States of America –
Haven for the oppressed.
The United States of America –
May she ever be blessed.
The United States of America –
The land of the brave and the free.
The United States of America –
Fortress of liberty."
