Brave Lad

Brave lad who reads this years from now
When time has buried all I see,
And these few lines survive somehow
Through centuries of history,
I've words to speak that you may hear
Though your reply cannot return!
Now, none-the-less, I'll fill your ear
With things of which you need to learn.

I've witnessed dark and evil years
Of tyrants' wars and holocaust,
When states unleashed man's darkest fears -
Nightmare dreams, with dreadful cost -
When twisted leaders made us kill,
When most of us had not the will
To rise, to stand in evil's path
And dare oppose the great blood bath.

Brave lad, do Fascists rule the Earth?
Has freedom vanished long ago?
Then fight for liberty's rebirth,
And for this writer strike one blow.
