Anarcho Capitalism as an Inevitable Consequence of Minarchist Libertarianism - A Personal View
by Duncan Bayne
I see the division between anarcho-capitalism and minarchist-libertarianism as false and unnecessary, because there is a natural and inevitable progression from a genuinely non-coercive minarchist-libertarian government to anarcho-capitalism. One is simply a subset of the other: minarchist-libertarianism is simply anarcho-capitalism with one provider holding a (most likely very short-lived) monopoly. (Read more...)

Ask The Question
by Duncan Bayne
How often do you start to discuss an issue with someone, and find yourself going around in circles, with the debate degenerating into an argument, and then into a fight, finally ending without anyone having learned anything? There’s an easy fix for this problem. As soon as you’ve identified the issue at hand and determined the other person’s position, ask The Question. (Read more...)

Self Defense, Part 1
by Duncan Bayne
Are you prepared to protect your life, and the people and things in your life which you value? Your wife? Your children? Your dog? Your house? Your collection of gently aging Shiraz? The reason I ask is that I thought I was prepared, some months ago—then reality asserted itself and proved otherwise. (Read more...)

Activism Plan
by Duncan Bayne
I spend a lot of time performing activities that broadly fit into the category of political activism. Writing letters, arguing online, posting to my blog, distributing pamphlets, talking politics with friends & colleagues ...
What I've needed for a while is a way of maximising the effectiveness of my activism, while ensuring that I don't get so busy landing blows for freedom that I don't have the time to enjoy the rest of my life, including the freedoms I manage to secure.
Here it is. (Read more...)

The Crime of Self-Defense
by Duncan Bayne
It shouldn't come as a surprise that the Government is opposed to giving New Zealanders the right to self-defense. To do so would be to admit that one has the right to keep one’s property and dispose of it in voluntary interactions; it would also involve admitting that the theft of property is equivalent to the theft of that portion of the owner’s life which went into earning it. The Evil of Militant Islam
by Duncan Bayne
If ever there was doubt, the events of the past 48 hours have proved to the world how evil militant Islam is. A few weeks ago, the new leader of the Palestinian authority, Mahmoud Abbas, came to an historic ceasefire agreement with Israel. The Palestinians would cease killing Israelis forthwith, and the Israeli... (Read more...)

Last December, I married my fiancee & girlfriend of seven years (to the day - we were married on our seventh anniversary), Andelys, and we honeymooned in Rarotonga (brilliant place to relax - the photo to the right is the view from Sails Restaurant). Firearms and Self-Defense
by Duncan Bayne
I was, for many years, an opponent of personal firearm ownership and use. However, in the last few years, I have realised that position was without rational support. Since then, I've been studying the subject in detail - the truth is somewhat distant from the claims of anti-gun groups and politicians. The follow... (Read more...)

The Liberty Pledge
by Duncan Bayne
People everywhere, especially those involved with minority parties, are familiar with this 'chicken and egg' problem: a voter may be reluctant to vote for a minority party, fearing his vote would be wasted. Here's how to fix this problem - use a "Liberty Pledge". (Read more...)

The Hacker's Diet
by Duncan Bayne
I strongly recommend The Hacker's Diet to anyone seeking to lose or gain body fat - it is rational, easy and free. I am a hacker (as defined by Eric Raymond), I am on the Hacker's Diet, and probably will be for the rest of my life. In the few months I have been on the diet, I have reduced my weight (20-day movi... (Read more...)
