RoRC #1!

Announcing the first RoR conference!  Yes, RoRC #1!

The reservations are made.  Our first conference as RoR will be held in Kissimmee, Florida from May 26 to 29 this year.  We'll be staying in two luxurious vacation homes with all of the trimmings.  There's a pool table, air hockey table, foosball, and a Playstation 2.  There's a heated swimming pool and hot tub.  Located just 3 miles from Disney World.

The weekend is Memorial Day weekend, and we'll be there Friday through Monday.  You'll want to make your plans early.

Space is limited.  The two houses, side by side, have 14 rooms between them.  While there is couch and floor space available, it didn't work very well at the last conference so we're planning on not renting that space.  Rooms can sleep two each if desired.

There will be speeches, still to be determined, and other forms of entertainment targeted at an Objectivist audience.  There will be a conference fee for attending.  $100 per person.  On top of that, a bedroom for the 3 nights is $150 total.  Contact me by email or RoRMail for questions or to sign up.  If you're interested in giving a speech or presentation, please let me know.

More details about this conference will be made available as we get them.

Updates!

Sorry for the delay in getting out more information. It's been hard to get some firm commitments by many of the people, and I've been pretty busy lately.

The first order of business is the schedule and speaking list.

Friday 4pm: Check-in begins. The rest of the night will be open as people arrive at various times. This will be a good opportunity to meet everyone, or catch up with those friends we haven't seen in awhile.

Saturday 1pm:
Ed Hudgins, Executive Director of The Objectivist Center/Atlas Society:
"A Strategy for Activism"
Ed will discuss his own approach to activism, why he thinks it's effective, and give examples along the way.

2pm:
Frank Bubb:
"Activism on the political front: Kelo and Price Gouging"
Frank is involved in and making plans for political activism on a few fronts. He's going to discuss the political situations, and what he's doing to make a positive change. We'll here about his work on the front line.

2:30pm:
Kurt Eichert:
"Barnett's Geopolitical Ideas"
Kurt is going to be discussing some political ideas outside of the Objectivist framework.

3:30pm:
Joseph Rowlands:
"Eliminating the Altruistic Baggage"
Conventional morality is built upon an altruistic base. While Objectivism rejects altruism in favor of rational self-interest, we can't simply substitute a new goal while using the same flawed framework. This speech will identify several ways in which self-sacrifice still permeates the thoughts of Objectivists, and provide alternatives. It will try to recast our moral tools to be more consistent with a philosophy of living.

4:30pm
Activism Roundtable:
We'll be discussing what's next on our various agendas. I'll discuss my future plans, and how RoR fits in. We'll hear from Ed Hudgins on his plans for TOC/Atlas Society. And everyone will have a chance to add their own thoughts and priorities.

5:30pm
The rest of the night is free. We'll probably try to organize a group dinner, but it's not mandatory. We'll have some entertainment of interest to Objectivists.

Sunday:
The day is wide open. We may split up and take some trips like to the beach or the Space Center. Take a day to completely relax with like-minded friends. Monday 10:00am:
Check-out time. Bright and early. While we have to be out of the house early, people will probably depart throughout the day as their flights leave. I expect we'll spend a bit of the day as a slowly dwindling group, but people can leave anytime.

Location

Oh yeah...you probably want to know where the houses are at. They're right next to each other:

2719 Fiesta Key Dr.
Kissimmee, Fl, 34741
